| The N.E.R.D. and the Playmate |
| Never before had two beautiful Playboy models gone so unnoticed as when hip-hop whiz kids Pharrell Williams and Shae Haley, two-thirds of band-of-the-moment N.E.R.D., strutted into Playboy's Chicago headquarters for their Celebrity Guest Photographer shoot. The studio prop distracting the artists' attention: a 65-pound albino Burmese Python named Banana. Sporting duds from his baggy Billionaire Boys Club line, Williams coolly surveyed the circus-themed set when he arrived, but steered clear of the caged yellow serpent. When asked if he minded posing with it, the renowned hip-hop producer from the Neptunes, who's worked with everyone from Jay-Z to Justin Timberlake, remarked, "As long as the head is five inches to the left, and I'm five inches to the right". It wasn't long before Williams loosened up and his subject, Miss March 2004 Sandra Hubby, dressed down for their steamy photo session. The seemingly laid-back producer showed the same bravado behind the lens that he exhibits onstage as the frontman for N.E.R.D. "Turn around for me while you take it off", he instructed. "Take it all the way off". As the session progressed, Williams spewed out directions like a seasoned Playboy photographer. "Face me, right. Lean back and put your right hand down. I'm gonna ask you to spread your legs...wider, a little wider. Someone fix her hair, it's blocking her boobs". Williams even got, well, a little cheeky with his model: "Stick your ass out -- pretend you're a black girl with a big butt". After firing off 10 rolls of film, Williams took a break, but before he left the studio he expressed his amazement at people who do this for a living: "I don't know how you all do this shit", he said, a bit dumbfounded. "I almost got a boner! ". Next, it was time for long-time pal and N.E.R.D. bandmate Shae Haley to shoot the vivacious Kori Adams, who previously worked with Tommy Lee for his stint as a Playboy photographer. "I'm a big fan of her work", Haley said, with beer in hand and no hint of apprehension. "I'm not nervous -- I've seen naked women before", he quipped. The only thing intimidating Haley was the presence of that python. "You can take the snake out, but I'll be over there". |
